My email ringtone. I was a big fan of the show…I’m talking before I even had children. I even have a Blue’s Clues teddy bear that barks when you squeeze his paw.
While Blue, the puppy was adorable, what made the show for me, was Steve…played by Steve Burns. He was cute, and had a child-like quality from his voice to his mannerisms. Steve left in 2002, (the show started in 1996) and was replaced by Donovan Patton, who did OK, but didn’t grab my attention like Steve, which made me stop watching. By this time, I had a two year old daughter who was alright with the switch and continued watching. Some sources say Steve left to pursue music, while others claimed he left because he was aging. According to Huffington Post, Steven actually did leave because he was aging, and going bald;
“I left the show because it was just simply time to go. I was pretty much playing a boyish, older-brotherish kind of character on the show. I was getting older; I was losing my hair; a lot of the original gangsters on the show, like the people who created it, were all moving on to other careers. It just felt like time. I just had a gut feeling like it was time to go,” said Burns. (Huffington Post)
There is talk Blue’s Clues will return, possibly with a female hosting the show. While I’m all for a woman being in this position, I’d love to see Steve Burns come back :).
